San Diego & La Jolla 2002

Episode "March 2002":  Where Miriam and Anatole camp on Mt. Palomar and are puzzled by the indigenous signage.

This picture hopefully speaks for itself.

Mt. Palomar is home to the observatory below, which houses the Hale telescope
(5 meter mirror diameter - the entire contraption was immense.)
This is where they discovered Schumaker-Levy 9.

This was an oddly unmarked outpost that Miriam and I found while hiking.
The trail was marked (with the end as "Weir Historic Site"), but the installation itself lent few clues as to its origins.

Episode "January 2002":  Where California is still gorgeous and Mike conjures up some surf.

Hey, who's that guy with ... oh wait, it's Mike.
Mike and I cleverly timed coinciding visits to visit Miriam in January!
Three cheers for cross-continental meeting points.

Beautiful La Jolla.

Beached seals.  There's not much more to say really.
(Unless you haven't heard Miriam's story about why the seals are there,
in which case you should ask her.  It's really quite funny.)

Beautiful La Jolla II.
